Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Course

COURSE COST: $103      TIME ESTIMATE: 4½ HOURS

The AHA’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

Who should take this course?

The AHA’s BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

What does this course teach?

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants

  • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components

  • Important early use of an AED

  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device

  • Importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR

Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Renewal Course

COURSE COST: $103      TIME ESTIMATE: 3-4 HOURS

The BLS recertification course is for individuals that are currently BLS certified. The BLS Healthcare Provider Course teaches CPR skills for helping victims of all ages (including doing ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen); use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). It’s intended for participants who provide heath care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital. For certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed healthcare professionals. (cards must not have expired)

 

Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Challenge Course

This AHA Course Challenge is designed for healthcare professionals whose occupation requires proficiency in BLS skills. 

This course is only appropriate for healthcare providers who use BLS on a regular basis.  Those with expired certification cards are NOT eligible.  A valid card must be presented at time of appointment.

Registrants must be knowledgeable of current guidelines and proficient in their skills to pass the BLS course challenge, and come prepared to have their skills evaluated.

To renew certification through the BLS Challenge, all steps of the AHA BLS sequence with adult and infant CPR must be performed 100% correctly.  The BLS Challenge ends at the first mistake made.

  • There will be no lecture or review.

  • No refunds for failing, no-shows or cancelations.

  • There is no remediation allowed with this option.

An AHA Provider card will be issued after successful completion of all skills and written examination(s).  Card will be valid for 2 Years

The course will consist of a series of skill performance evaluations including demonstrating management of respiratory arrest, 1 and 2-Rescuer CPR & AED, and a written evaluation.

Individuals may practice the Respiratory and CPR-AED skills before testing.   AHA course challenge usually lasts about an hour depending on amount of practice required.  You may challenge more than one AHA course at the same time. Please contact us for more information.

Failed BLS Challenge(s) cannot reattempt or sign up again at a later date to reattempt, but rather be referred to an AHA traditional class that is offered.  There are no refunds for failed performances or discounts for classes.

Course Completion Requirements:

1. Successful demonstration of respiratory arrest management.  (Adult/Child/Infant)


2. Successful demonstration of 1 and 2-rescuer CPR/First Aid/AED.  (Adult/Child/Infant)3. Achievement of 84 percent or greater on the written test on first attempt; no retesting permitted.  (No more than 4 incorrect answers.)

Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association, and any fees charged for such a course do not represent income to the Association.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider & Heartsaver® First Aid Course

COURSE COST: $153      TIME ESTIMATE: 7½ HOURS

The BLS/First Aid Course trains participants to save the lives of victims in cardiac arrest through high-quality CPR, as well as basic First Aid assessment and skills. Healthcare professionals will learn how to perform high-quality CPR individually or as part of a team. BLS skills are applicable to any healthcare setting. BLS students will learn rescue techniques for adults, children, and infants. *This class satisfies license or education requirements for all health care programs requiring CPR AED & First Aid certification, including all healthcare education programs at any college or university.

Health care providers or others who must hold a CPR AED & First Aid certification for medical professionals or a medical education program.

COURSE COST: $70      TIME ESTIMATE: 1 HOUR

Blended Learning Format (part online, part in-classroom):

Part 1 – Online course from the AHA: $35.00 (Price set by AHA and may change without warning.)

(Part 2 is the Skills Assessment, which is completed in person.)

You must bring a PRINTED copy of your online course completion certificate to the class.
